I’ve been taking yoga instruction from RoxAnn for years now, had a back injury, was ready to quit yoga altogether, when she suggested the Solutions Class. I was in my recovery mode when the world shut down. I was frankly skeptical how Zoom Yoga could possibly work so I started with the Stress Class, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  Several friends shared how happy they were with the regular yoga, so I gave it a try. My mind was blown how RoxAnn is able to make this work. She spends time initially getting each person, their mat, and their computer/device arranged so that she can see just what we’re doing and provide individual instruction as she always has.
It’s a strong workout and definitely worth the hour of commitment to continue my yoga education. Is it the same as being in the studio? Of course not. Is it a wonderful and viable alternative to those of us who feel too vulnerable to venture out? ABSOLUTELY!
When/if the studio reopens, I’ll be staying with Zoom. To those who are reticent, my advice is to just give it a try. I did, and I’m a believer. Congrats to RoxAnn and Rolf for reinventing the wheel for the benefit of all of us.
Many thanks,

… RoxAnn, a birthday is a good reason to tell you how special you are and I’m happy I’ve had you in my yoga life for almost 9 years, I believe. You are so much about your students and our well-being, both, physically and mentally and you empower us to be strong and sufficient women. I appreciate that and feel my yoga classes have helped me a great deal. You push us just enough – but allow us to go at our own speed. I enjoy the classes at Old World Village and appreciate how lovely you’ve made our environment there. You play a key role in many lives! God bless you!

Tree pose has always been a challenge for me, but when RoxAnn told us in class it was one of the poses that helps with osteoporosis and osteopenia, I thought I needed to get more serious about it and selected it as my New Year’s Yoga Resolution.  I turned in my promise before leaving for winter break and decided I should start working on this right then, not waiting for January.  My goal was to attempt to get to one minute of tree pose at least once a day and hopefully twice or three times.  It shouldn’t have surprised me that the more I practiced, the more proficient I became. When asked to do tree pose in class recently, I was thrilled when RoxAnn complimented me, knowing I must have been practicing…and now…side plank.

Since it is the season of love I am reminded of a popular sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning’ s “How do I love you? Let me count the ways!”
I Love the way RoxAnn builds a caring community in each class and help us find ways to connect with each other.
I love that her classes are small enough that she can adjust poses and exercised to our individual strengths and limitations.
I love that I have less pain and discomfort than I had a year ago and no longer take pain medications.
I love that through RoxAnn’s instruction and encouragement I am gaining strength, balance and flexibility.
I love the i information she shares with me on our anatomy, diet and spirituality to improve our overall health.
Thank you RoxAnn for helping me improve the quality of my life. I hope to continue taking your classes as long as possible!

I have been a student of RoxAnn’s for going on two years now.  I was immediately impressed with her energy, spirit and friendliness.   She shares her own Yoga experiences and she is a tribute to the success of the discipline.   She is open and friendly with all her students and considerate of each student’s needs, and/or any possible conditions or disabilities.  Going to her classes has been fun for me while showing me ways to be as fit as I can be.  Her enthusiasm is contagious.   I could not have found a better Yoga teacher.  Thank you, RoxAnn.

I first started yoga with a chair after mu double knee replacement surgery a year ago.  Your class has given me significant improvement in strengthening my quadriceps muscles, I torn one when I got out of the hospital, due to a fall when I came home. My thighs are much stronger now.
I am now paying attention to my posture when working on the computer which I learned in our yoga class as well.
I thank you for teaching me yoga and the positive impact it has made on and in my life.

RoxAnn, you are not the first yoga instructor I took classes from, but you’ll be my last.
Two years ago at 65, I retired after spending 45 years teaching blind and visually impaired adults. I had wanted to keep teaching till I was 67, but the golden hand shake was to good not to take.
So now what? After sitting around for 6 months, I decided, if not now, when. I was handed a gift to start taking care of me, after years of taking care of others. I set some goals. I got rid of 54 pounds, by changing my diet, started walking every day, worked out in the water class three times weekly and light weights once a week.
Always want to try yoga, but felt I was not flexible, signed up for a few classes, but the instructor was not a great teacher so I dropped the class. Someone in my pool class suggested the Founders Center in Fountain Valley so once again I signed up for Yoga with a Chair at the Center and I found you.
A true teacher, someone who reaches the mind, body and soul through yoga.  To me that is what it’s all about, you not only work with us on the poses, but explain the why and how of each one.  I love your knowledge of the whole body and enjoy your explanation of what muscles and bones are used, your reading also add to the class and to my day.
Thank your the gift of being a great yoga teacher.

Several years ago a staff member at my chiropractor’s office recommended RoxAnn’s Yoga class. The class has been beneficial for maintaining my flexibility and dealing with stress. I appreciate that she is respectful of my individual limitations and is willing to modify exercises and/or poses for any student who needs it. Her emphasis on listening to my own body and proper breathing have been helpful. I am very grateful to be one of her students!

In my quest for the best life, I have learned that I must seek out and surround myself with people who exhibit great wisdom.  RoxAnn is just such a person.  Her suggestions for mind and body are thoughtful and considered.  Attending her class brings me great joy and an sense of serenity that takes me through the rest of my day.  For me, RoxAnn has earned the title “Phenomenal Teacher!”

Your grateful student,

I have been attending RoxAnn Madera’s yoga classes for several years now.  Because this mid-eighties body has accumulated so many problems over the years, I have limited energy and mobility, so I’ve stayed in the very basic beginning class: Yoga in a Chair.  One might suppose that exercises done from a sitting position would have limited effect, but for me this has not been  true. An exercise that stretches back muscles has finally loosened one that I tore in a fall some fifteen years ago–now it does not ache when I get tired.  Likewise, the rotator cuffs in both shoulders, that I tore several months ago, are now gradually healing with the help of the gentle yoga exercises. And my most basic problems result from ingestion of various heavy metals over a lifetime. They have caused multiple issues, including the partial paralysis of peripheral neuropathy. Here the yoga breathing exercises have been particularly helpful in slowly restoring function.

Sometimes it takes determination to get ready and go to the class, and I’m always very tired and ready for a nap afterwards, but RoxAnn is very empathetic with the problems of her students.  She explains how each exercise will help the part of the body that she is concentrating on at the time while repeating her caution that “Pain is no gain” and encouraging us to stop if a particular movement becomes painful.  And her inspirational Web site contains a great deal of further information about the asanas and a healthful life style.  RoxAnn’s low-key encouragement keeps us doing more and more as we get stronger.  And she creates a cooperative, friendly class atmosphere that makes us want to continue.  My progress has been slow, but it is evident, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be in her class.

“I have been enrolled in Roxanne’s yoga classes since early 2014.  She methodically and consistently provides personal attention in an effort to help all her students derive maximum benefit from the yoga she teaches.  Many of her yoga moves have been incorporated into my daily exercise routine and have made me feel an improvement in my overall flexibility and well-being.  I am always looking forward to her next class.”

“Through Yoga,  RoxAnn has introduced me to the physical connections within my body.  I am stronger, more flexible, more aware of my inner well being, more aware of my physical  limitations, and more confident in my physical abilities.  I am thankful for my Yoga practice and see that it is a never ending journey.  Thanks, RoxAnn.”

  1. I’ve just completed the “Bolster Class,” and came home beyond excited! It is a rarity when I don’t have some kind of back pain. The 2 1/2 hour class flew by, and the final “Queen of the Restorative Poses” was an experience like no other. I always enjoy my yoga sessions, but this class was life changing in that I left, PAIN FREE! I’ve already set up my bolster at home in a room where I’ll be undisturbed. I have all my towels, blocks, and strap ready to go tomorrow. I want to share this with everyone. Thank you, Roxanne, you are a teacher, a healer, a blessing!

With her vast knowledge and understanding of the science behind yoga, RoxAnn always explains the purpose of the various poses we perform. Thanks to her gentle teachings, my health, body and spirit have improved. I can’t thank her enough.

  4. I had observed my mother’s decline in health and posture due to lack of moving/exercise and vowed that would not happen to me. Luckily, my daughter told me about RoxAnn’s yoga class at Los Cab. In 2010, right after I retired, I started attending RoxAnn’s classes at LosCab. A few years ago I began taking her classes at the DoJo center in Fountain Valley. I love the fact that if I can’t do a certain pose, RoxAnn will show me another way to achieve similar results. It makes me feel that I am doing good things for my body. I hope RoxAnn keeps on teaching because I plan on staying in her classes for the rest of my life!

  7. I timidly started yoga classes the summer of 2014 not really knowing what to expect. Roxanne made introduction into the class comfortable and easy. She treats all of her students with patience and encouraging correction whether new or seasoned, and thoroughly explains what muscles are being worked and how each position/exercise can better our lives. Each class she takes the time to have us sit up and go around the room re-introducing ourselves – another method of making someone new feel acquainted with everyone. I particularly love the short time she spends every session sharing yoga philosophy or a meaningful message for us. She has enriched my life both physically and mentally. A benefit I hadn’t anticipated.
    Thanks Roxanne!
